Last year, he recorded 44 combined tackles and 1512 sacks, and he went into the summer searching for a new contract.

Chris Jones, a defensive lineman for the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs, has not yet made an appearance at training camp. During the team’s march to the Super Bowl last year, Jones led the defense and had his greatest professional season.

It is well known that Jones is refusing to sign a new contract because he wants a long-term one, but the details of a new agreement have not been made public.

Jordan Schultz, an NFL insider, said that Jones is looking for a deal “closer to Aaron Donald money than Quinnen Williams money.”

Donald helped the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl in 2022, and he afterwards agreed to a three-year, $95 million contract with the organization.

As of Tuesday, Jones was still looking for that big new contract, and it didn’t seem like his holdout would soon be over. On social media, the defensive tackle sent a mysterious message.

“KC…I adore you,” he posted on X, the site that replaced Twitter.

What Jones was attempting to communicate in the post is unclear. This month, he published for the first time on the site.

On Monday, Chiefs general manager Brett Veach provided an update on the situation involving Jones and the team.

“He’s a great player, and he wants a big contract. He deserves a big contract, and I don’t think there’s any surprises in that regard,” Veach told The Kansas City Star. “But there’s just some hurdles we have to work through in regards to how we can keep this thing going for the short- and long-term.

“But we’ve never wavered on, ‘This is a guy that we want to exhaust all of our efforts to get done,’ because that’s how much we think of him.”

The Chiefs selected Jones in the second round of the 2016 draft. He has 65 sacks to his name and has appeared in 107 games for the Chiefs. He has played in four Pro Bowls and was chosen for the first team of the All-Pro last season. Last year, he received votes for Defensive Player of the Year.

With a $19.5 million salary, he is entering the Chiefs’ last season.
