Chicago Sky’s Most Valuable Player Kamilla Cardoso Will Miss Few Games, Is She Not Fit?

According to the team today, Kamilla Cardoso, the highly awaited rookie for the Chicago Sky, will miss a large chunk of the early WNBA season because of a shoulder issue. The injury will set back the Sky’s hopes for the upcoming season as the third overall choice from last month’s WNBA Draft will likely be out for four to six weeks while she heals.

The injury occurred during the Sky’s preseason game against the Minnesota Lynx last Friday. Cardoso is a towering 6-foot 7-inch center. After further medical assessments, the severity of the injury was determined, which is why the team announced her stay away.

The player, who was born in Brazil, has a strong basketball background and gained recognition throughout her time in college. Following her freshman year, Cardoso transferred from Syracuse and excelled at the University of South Carolina, where she was a key component of the Gamecocks’ undefeated year. Cardoso proved to be a formidable opponent in the NCAA women’s basketball championship game, putting on an impressive display with an average of 14.4 points and over 10 rebounds per game.

Cardoso’s final year at South Carolina was particularly memorable.

Cardoso’s supremacy was evident in the title game when she led South Carolina to victory over the Iowa Hawkeyes in her senior year. She was named the most outstanding player of the tournament for her incredible 15-point, 17-rebound performance, which cemented her place among the top prospects in women’s basketball.

Even though Cardoso’s absence is a setback for the Sky, she is still committed to making a stronger recovery when she is well. As she goes through additional testing in the upcoming weeks, the team will be constantly monitoring her progress.

In addition to Kamilla Cardoso, Bryanna Maxwell, the rookie guard for the Sky, is also out due to a knee injury. Maxwell’s condition will be reassessed in three to four weeks, which will make the team’s preseason planning much more difficult.
