Basketball player Lonzo Ball might never return. The Chicago Bulls are starting to believe that, worrying that their 25-year-old point guard could never play again due to his left knee issues. He has had three surgeries for the injuries, but none of them have resulted in improvement. One of the NBA’s most potential playmakers’ future is in grave danger.

Chicago had a strong start in 2021, but since Ball suffered a knee injury, they have had trouble. He missed the entirety of the 2021–22 season, as well as the full 2022–23 season, due to an injury. Now, it’s looking like he could miss all of next year, too, and according to Dan Bernstein of 670 The Score, the Bulls believe he may never play again.

In a recent episode of the podcast Organizations Win Championships, Bernstein said that, according to Daniel Greenberg, Chicago believes Ball won’t ever set foot on an NBA floor again.

ESPN and The Athletic reported in March that Ball was scheduled to have a third operation on his left knee after the Bulls declared him out for the remainder of the 2022–23 season due to persistent knee problems. He hasn’t played since leaving a game on January 14, 2022, due to knee pain, which ultimately revealed a minor meniscus tear.

He wouldn’t play this season, he would miss the majority of next season, or possibly he wouldn’t be ready for the full season, it was a given. The Bulls, on the other hand, are starting to believe that the most unlikely outcome is that they will never again be able to rely on the point guard.
Lonzo Ball silenced critics of his shooting with his work ethic and dedication. In fact, the Bulls were one of the top teams in the East prior to his injury.

Ball’s four-year, $80 million contract with the Chicago team is already in its second year. In 35 games last season, the point guard exceeded expectations while healthy, averaging 13.0 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. When the physical issues that have defined the team’s recent trajectory and may put Ball’s career at risk of ending at age 25, the Bulls were 27-13 at the time.
