Check Out: Salary Breakdown For The XFL Players

The Super Bowl, which the NFL held on February 12 to cap off its season, was the third-most-watched television programme of all time with 113 million viewers. The XFL returned to the field this past Saturday to begin its 10-week regular season schedule. The USFL will begin its own 10-week season on April 15.

The XFL invested two and a half years in product development before being bought out of bankruptcy in 2020 by Dany Garcia, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and RedBird Capital Partners. With more than 800 full-time staff members, an exclusive deal with ESPN/Disney to broadcast and watch all 43 of its games, and a schedule that will make athletes accessible to transfer into NFL offseason programmes at the beginning of May, it currently has more than 800 full-time workers.

What is the basic structure of the league?

Eight teams are divided into two divisions to play a 10-week regular season. The top two teams in each division will play a round of semifinal playoff games April 29-30 before a championship game to be played May 13.

The league made three changes to its franchise locations, moving out of New York, Los Angeles and Tampa, Florida, and into Las Vegas, San Antonio and Orlando, Florida.

Here are the division arrangements:

North Division: D.C. Defenders, Seattle Sea Dragons, St. Louis BattleHawks, Vegas Vipers

South Division: Arlington Renegades, Houston Roughnecks, Orlando Guardians, San Antonio Brahmas

How much do XFL players get paid?

According to ESPN — citing XFL senior vice president of player personnel Doug Whaley and executive vice president of football operations Marc Ross — the average XFL player can expect an estimated annual salary of $60,000 from training camp through the end of the season.

XFL salary structure

  • Average salary: $60,000
  • Weekly paycheck: $5,000
  • Win bonus: $1,000 per win

According to reports, haley and Ross’ offer to player agents included a wage structure where players would earn $5,000 per week with a $1,000 victory incentive.

According to that system, a player on an unsuccessful XFL club would earn $50,000 in 2023. At the conclusion of the regular season, a player on a 10-0, unbeaten team would receive $60,000 (getting an additional $10,000 at $1,000 each victory).

The average yearly pay mentioned by Whaley and Ross was not made clear in the ESPN story as to whether it included the playoffs, which consist of a semifinal and championship round, or just the regular season.

A player on the championship-winning team may theoretically earn an additional $12,000 in the postseason if it simply applies to the regular season (and uses the same rules for the playoffs): $10,000 for playing in two games and an additional $2,000 for winning two games.

With that, an active player on an undefeated XFL championship team could potentially make up to $72,000 in 2023.

Of course, that would apply only to baseline player salaries. However, Whaley and Moss told the outlet “some quarterbacks are expected to receive higher salaries.” ESPN also reported the XFL values its benefit package to be worth $20,000, “in addition to paying for housing and two meals a day during the season.”
