Charles Barkley Blames Load Management For Poor Condition Of NBA
Barkley was questioned about the NBA’s present situation during a recent interview on The Stephen A. Smith Show. The Hall of Fame basketball player expressed his degree of concern without holding back.
Chuck occasionally says things that some people may find annoying, while other times he expresses himself intelligently and clearly.
Charles Barkley on load management:
“Wait a minute, you gonna make $70M and you can’t play basketball 3 or 4 days a week?’… They fly private. They got the best medical stuff ever created… People working in the steel mill every day, I’m pretty sure they tired too, but they go… pic.twitter.com/JX8dzq3ZQn

During his recent guest visit on “The Stephen A. Smith Show,” the Basketball Hall of Fame member expressed his concerns about the NBA’s future candidly. He didn’t hold back while discussing the matter with Stephen A. Smith.
Chuck mentioned the following while addressing the subject, expressing his worries and what he believes “everyone” should be aware of.
“You have to be concerned. Everybody has to be concerned. Because the one thing you can’t do is alienate your fans. That’s the one thing you can’t do, because the fans make everything go. They buy our products. They watch our sport. And once you piss them off, there’s gonna be some repercussions.”
Charles Barkley weighs in on load management in the NBA:
"You can't make $30, $40, $50 million and then sit out games. I think it's disrespectful to the game, I think it's disrespectful to the fans." pic.twitter.com/WLFTnhRCV7

Barkley believes that since players are earning “way too much money,” there will come a day when they will no longer be as engaged in playing the game and the so-called “load management” will worsen with time, alienating fans in the process.
“What’s gonna be interesting with this new TV deal when guys start making even more money. When you have guys making 75, 80, 90, God forbid $100 million a year to play basketball, and the guy says, ‘You know what, I’m gonna rest tonight.’ At some point the fans are gonna say, ‘I’ve had enough”

Smith elaborated on Charles Barkley’s argument, saying that players shouldn’t come out to the court wearing a nice outfit if they are going to miss games due to serious injuries.
“It’s one thing to sit out, it’s another thing to be at the game on the bench with fly street clothes, essentially flaunting it, while you’re not playing, but we know you’re going to play tomorrow night or two nights later. But for some reason you can’t play tonight. I think that’s a slap in the face to fans,” Smith said.
However, Smith sought to bring up race in the conversation right away after stating that (surprise, surprise). According to him, Black athletes occasionally employ load management in an effort to make the most of their power—a resource Smith contends Black athletes were denied in the past.

Since Shaquille O’Neal and Kenny “the Jet” Smith, two of Chuck Barkley’s contemporaries who are currently in NBA media, were expected to play through injuries and perform night in and night out despite this, Chuck is a critic of “load management,” and this is just another rant from him about the subject.
