To get recruits to join his program, he is well-known for his distinctive khaki pants, milk with steak, and sleepovers at recruits’ houses. He left the championship-winning Wolverines for the Los Angeles Chargers, so he is no longer in the collegiate coaching ranks, but he is still being the eccentric guy that he is.

All of Harbaugh’s immediate intentions center around football, and his living situation could remind you of one of his favorite television characters from the 1970s. James Garner portrays Jim Rockford, the character. It’s called Rockford Files. The story of Rockford Files centers on a private detective who rides around in a cool sports car, gets in the occasional bare knuckle brawl and lives in a trailer right on the Pacific Ocean.

“Okay. So, I wanna drive my RV out. I wanna drive my RV out and go to a trailer park down by the water or by Disneyland. Two that I’ve researched that are close to the facility. I’m gonna Jim Rockford it for the next couple of months until we move to the new facility. I have that thought going through my head.”

Based upon Harbaugh’s comments at his introductory new conference, he’s aspiring to be a bit Rockford-like.

“My favorite show growing up is the Rockford Files. It’s still my favorite show,” Harbaugh said. “That was me as a kid. Driving that Camaro around L.A. and the car chases. Down there by the beach, have the trailer down there at the beach,” Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh living in a trailer by the beach is something he’s actually put some research into.

After nine seasons at the University of Michigan, where he went 15-0 and won the team’s first national championship since 1997 last month, Harbaugh last week came to terms on a five-year deal.

He will be the first former Chargers player to return to the team as head coach and the 19th coach in franchise history.
