Chael Sonnen Casts a Shadow of Doubt Over a Potential Fight Between Nate Diaz and Jake Paul After Being Freed From His UFC Contract
Former UFC title challenger Nate Diaz is preparing to take on Khamzat Chimaev in what will be the final fight of his current UFC contract. The younger Diaz brother has been in the UFC for the better part of two decades and during that time he has faced the very best the UFC has had to offer across multiple weight classes.
However, his final fight will be at welterweight against one of the most promising young and upcoming talents in the UFC in the form of Khamzat Chimaev. Ahead of the fight, former title challenger turned pundit Chael Sonnen shared his thoughts on what might ne next for Diaz after a fight against Chimaev.
He said, “Nate says it’s silly to go over and box Jake Paul and then said that Jake Paul was a fool, says he’s not doing it. Nate could be working on this. But. that’s not in the history of Nate Diaz, that’s just not the way he does things. If we’re getting this straight shot here and Nate wants out of his contract with the UFC to do something else, but it’s not Jake Paul. What is Nate up to?”
Nate Diaz to take on Jake Paul after he is done with the UFC?
The younger Diaz brother wanted out of his UFC contract since his last fight against Leon Edwards. However, Dana White and his team kept Diaz on the sidelines for the better part of a year as they hoped to secure a fight against Conor McGregor in what would have been an epic trilogy.
However, in the current circumstance, Diaz will face Chimaev. Diaz has stated that after he is done with his UFC career, he would like to take on Jake Paul in a boxing fight. For that to happen, Paul would have to emerge victorious over Hasim Rahman Jr next weekend. If he does manage to do that in all likelihood, Jake Paul’s next fight will be against Nate Diaz.
