Chad Johnson Has A Heart Of Gold, Leaves A $1K Tip At Tennessee’s IHOP

Chad Johnson, a former NFL standout, is setting an example.

Chad Johnson departed a Tennessee restaurant with a memorable tip, despite previous criticism of A-list celebrities for their treatment of waitstaff. The 44-year-old had dinner at an IHOP close to the University of Tennessee on Saturday night before the Kentucky-Tennessee football game, and his meal cost him $14.

Before travelling to witness the Volunteers face the Wildcats in person, Johnson, who is also known as Chad Ochocinco due to his jersey number of 85, gave fans a peek into his Saturday. Johnson attended the game in Knoxville with his daughter Cha’iel Johnson, who posed for pictures with him while he was sporting a Hendon Hooker shirt.

After winning the 800-meter race at the FHSAA Class 3A Track & Field State Championships in May, Cha’iel Johnson is a rising sports star in her own right. Johnson’s daughter was photographed with a Tennessee “Recruit” lanyard around her neck, indicating that the trip could have had a significant influence on her choice of university.

The former Cincinnati Bengal claimed to be a stranger to the area and handed the employees a $1,000 tip, or a 7,100% tip.

“It’s my first time in the Ville,” Johnson wrote on the receipt. “Going to the game tonight, but I don’t know the Rocky Top song. He also wrote “I Love You” at the bottom of the receipt.

“OchoCinco” is accustomed to leaving extravagant tips. Johnson’s tipping exploits on a Twitter date back to February 2019, when he graciously left a $100 tip on an $18.17 check at the chain eatery Bahama Breeze. He frequently tagged each post with the Bible verse “Proverbs 11:25.” A $2,000 gratuity was left along with a receipt that read, “Rent increase sucks, this should help, vote Ocho 2024,” and other sweet sentiments.

Johnson said to The Post in 2014, “I always take care of people who are serving me. It’s just something I always do, regardless of where I am, regardless of what restaurant or the service.”
