Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Continues To Wear A Face Mask & Here’s Why!

On February 8, Brown was hurt in the face as Boston defeated Philadelphia. Late in the second quarter, the injury happened. Brown chased after his own missed 3-pointer and collided with Jayson Tatum, who then collapsed to the floor grabbing his face.

Due to a face injury, the Celtics declared Brown unable to play the rest of the game. He fractured his face bone, according to a subsequent report, and will “miss some time.”

Due to the injury, Brown missed four straight games. On his reappearance on February 23, he covered his face with a mask.

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Continues To Wear A Face Mask & Here’s Why!

More than a month after suffering a face fracture in a collision with Boston Celtics teammate Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown is still covered by a mask. Although his condition has improved, the mask will likely remain for some time.

After Sunday’s rout of the San Antonio Spurs, Brown informed anchor Abby Chin that his mother wanted him to keep the mask on as a precaution. During his post-game news conference, he reaffirmed his mother’s plea and gave an update on his injuries.

“It’s pretty thick,” Brown said of the mask postgame. “Sometimes it gets a little hot on your face. I felt protected. I didn’t shy away from contact. I didn’t feel like I had to alter my game a little or anything like that.

“It’s a little uncomfortable at times and then sometimes you have to get your head around to make sure you see everything, somebody coming from behind or somebody’s in your side view. But just be able to make those adjustments, got to keep your head up and see the floor.”

“So I guess technically, I got like a couple more days or I don’t have to wear it anymore if I didn’t want to. But if you wanna be safe, they say, you keep wearing it. My mom wants me to wear it, so I’ll probably keep wearing it.”

Once Brown became acclimated to the mask, it didn’t seem to have much of an effect on him. He averaged 27.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.1 assists during the course of the 19 regular-season games he participated in with it, with shooting splits of.500/.347/.720.
