Cardinals Coach Kliff Kingsbury Heaps Massive Praise on Star WR Marquise Brown For Being ‘Ahead of the Curve’
Marquise Brown, a wide receiver, was moved from the Ravens to the Cardinals at the 2022 NFL Draft, and as a result, he won’t be his team’s No. 1 receiver for the first time in his NFL career. The 24-year-old really enjoys the opportunity to line up next to DeAndre Hopkins, another talented receiver, even if it may lead to fewer targets.
DeAndre Hopkins’ six-game ban for the 2022 season had not yet been made public when the Cardinals traded for receiver Marquise Brown during the draught. Hopkins’ early absence, though, makes it much more crucial for Brown to have a strong start with his new squad.

Brown, selected by the Ravens in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft, just completed his greatest season to date. He had 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns, breaking the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his NFL career. Fortunately for Arizona, Brown and quarterback Kyler Murray, a former teammate from college, already gets along well. Additionally, Brown and Murray played in a similar system at Oklahoma, as do the Cardinals.
Kliff Kingsbury praises Cardinals star Marquise Brown
These elements, according to head coach Kliff Kingsbury, provide Brown an advantage over other players in the Cardinals’ scheme.
“I’d say, comparatively speaking, if you’re talking about a guy who didn’t know the quarterback or didn’t play in a similar system and didn’t get to work out with him and hear the calls, see the signals, I would say he’s way ahead of the curve when it comes to that,” Kingsbury said, via Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.
“I think it’s similar to what he played in at OU,” Kingsbury said. “Obviously, position-wise, no-huddle type stuff, signal-based. But he’s been in Baltimore for a while now, and so it’s just readjusting to that, but I think he feels comfortable in what we’re doing.”
There are definitely substantial changes that Brown must make now that he is in the desert because he played in a very different scheme with the Ravens. Kingsbury, though, doesn’t appear to believe Brown will have too much trouble doing this.
