“Calling Teams to Solicit Trade Interest”: Relations between Chicago Bears and LB Roquan Smith Worsens Days After Requesting Trade
The Chicago Bears’ relationship with Roquan Smith could be coming to an end shortly. Due to a lack of fruitful contract negotiations, the All-Pro linebacker formally sought a trade out of the team on Monday. Smith remarked that the Bears’ “new front office regime doesn’t value me” as he enters the last year of his contract.
Additionally, the 25-year-old said that the Bears had not been negotiating in good faith up until this time, which had prompted his trade request. He charged that they were engaging in dishonest bargaining and trying to take advantage of him. He has officially asked for a trade as a result of this nefarious deed. It is obvious to everyone with common sense that this is a bargaining strategy.
Our focus now shifts to potential NFL teams for Smith to suit up for going forward. Smith would be one of the greatest young off-ball linebackers in the league for whatever club acquired him.
Someone calling teams to solicit trade interest for Roquan Smith
According to a league source, a person claiming to speak for Smith has been contacting other clubs to determine their interest in a trade. Only six players in league history had 500 or more tackles, 10 or more sacks, and five or more interceptions in their first four seasons, and Smith is one of them. That being said, he ought to have little trouble finding suitors.

There are two issues with the person calling NFL teams. The guy is not an NFLPA-certified agent, to start. He is unable to speak to Smith or any other player. Second, Smith is not authorized to look for a trade. In essence, the individual is laying the groundwork for a possible tampering trap for any club that speaks with Smith or fails to swiftly inform the Bears of the improper communication.
