Caleb Martin attended Davie County High School in North Carolina, where he played basketball and was named the North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014. He then attended North Carolina State University, where he played for two years before transferring to the University of Nevada.
At Nevada, Martin had a standout career, helping lead the team to two consecutive Mountain West Conference championships and two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. In his senior year, he averaged 19.2 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game, earning First-Team All-Mountain West honors and being named a finalist for the Naismith Trophy, which is awarded annually to the top college basketball player in the United States.
Despite his college success, Martin went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft. He signed with the Charlotte Hornets for the 2019 NBA Summer League and played well enough to earn a spot on the team’s training camp roster.
