Cal Basketball Player Fardaws Aimaq Confronts Fan For Calling Him A “Terrorist”

After a video of senior forward Fardaws Aimaq entering the grandstands following Monday night’s game at the SoCal Challenge went viral on Twitter, Cal basketball coach Mark Madsen issued a statement on Wednesday night. In it, he claimed that a fan had been making “abhorrent and offensive comments” toward him during the Bears game.

Among other things, Cal claims the man labelled Aimaq a “terrorist.” Madsen requested that the fan who was sending the remarks to Aimaq be banned and that the tournament authorities look into the situation.

Aimaq was subsequently seen in a video approaching a spectator after Monday’s 75-72 Golden Bears defeat to UTEP.

When asked if he was “disturbed that Fardaws was allegedly on the receiving end of such language,” California coach Mark Madsen responded in the negative, saying that Aimaq will face consequences for engaging the fan.

“Throughout and after Monday’s game, Fardaws Aimaq was allegedly subjected to abhorrent and offensive comments from a fan − including being called a terrorist,” Madsen stated. “I have asked the SoCal Challenge tournament director that a formal investigation be conducted and that this fan be barred from the premises.”

“Event organizers were made aware of the issue by Cal representatives on Wednesday morning,” tournament organizers said in a statement. “Security has been briefed to strictly enforce the policy and an internal investigation is ongoing related to Monday’s events.”

He expressed his disappointment. After entering the stands, Aimaq felt “disturbed.”

In the third-place match of the tournament on Wednesday, Aimaq scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds against Tulane. On Saturday, Cal will host San Diego State.

In the video, Aimaq approaches the fan, briefly stands in front of him, and then says something to him while pointing a finger in the general direction of his face.

“You want to talk some s—t? I’ll slap the f—k out of you, bitch,” Aimaq can be heard saying in the video, posted by someone identifying himself as @JustASportGuy and apparently a Texas Tech alum.

Although it doesn’t seem that Aimaq was in physical touch with the individual, Madsen stated that they spoke about the event and that Aimaq will handle the fallout “internally.”
