Budding London Knights Player Abakar Kazbekov Falls To Death At The Age Of 18

The Ontario Hockey League and the London Knights both shared the news of Abakar Kazbekov’s passing on Twitter on Saturday.
Several media outlets reported that Kazbekov passed away on Saturday morning after falling from an apartment building in the city.

At 8:20 a.m., London Police Service officers were sent to the intersection of Dufferin Avenue and Talbot Street after being informed that Kazbekov’s body was lying on the pavement there. When the cops arrived, he had already passed away.

London police are investigating the incident, but foul play is not suspected.

In a statement, OHL commissioner David Brance said, “Today I join the whole OHL community in mourning the sad loss of London Knights player Abakar Kazbekov. Our sincere condolences go out to his Canadian teammates, billets, and friends as well as his family and friends in Russia.”

The Moscow native had been a Knight since the start of the previous campaign. Kazbekov made 12 appearances with London in 2022–2023 and recorded one assist The Moscow native had been a Knight since the start of the previous campaign. He has previously participated in the under-16 and under-18 Russian leagues.

Kazbekov made 12 appearances for London this season, recording one assist. In nine contests last season, he managed one goal.

The game against the Flint Firebirds on Saturday has been postponed, according to the Knights and OHL. The OHL also announced the postponement of three other Saturday games — the Erie Otters versus Saginaw Spirit, Kingston Frontenacs vs. the Peterborough Petes, and Niagara vs. Sudbury — out of sensitivity to individuals involved in the games.
