Mike Budenholzer, the head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, was coping with a terrible personal tragedy at the conclusion of his team’s first-round playoff series against the Miami Heat.

Bucks Coach Mike Budenholzer’s Brother Died In A Car Crash

Coach Mike Budenholzer of the Milwaukee Bucks announced to The Athletic on Friday that his brother passed away in a vehicle accident during the team’s first-round playoff series loss to the Miami Heat.

Budenholzer, 53, is the youngest of four brothers and one of seven children total. The identity of the deceased brother and the details of the collision are unknown. Just before the fourth game of the Bucks’ series, Budenholzer’s brother passed away.

Budenholzer only verified the story through a team representative, but Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham addressed the incident prior to their game on Friday against the Memphis Grizzlies. Ham served as Budenholzer’s assistant in both Atlanta and Milwaukee. Ham speaking about the collision was alright with Budenholzer, he said.

“Coach Bud is going through a lot on a personal level,” Ham said, via The Athletic. “He just lost his brother, so my apologies Bud if I wasn’t supposed to let anybody know. He and I’ve been texting. I love those guys.”

The Bucks, who finished the regular season with the best record in the NBA (58-24), fell to the Heat in the first round in five games. Despite being the top seed in the Eastern Conference, Budenholzer and the Bucks were defeated 4-1 by the Miami Heat in their first-round playoff series earlier this week. They lost Game 4 in Miami shortly after Budenholzer’s brother passed away, and then they lost in overtime on Wednesday despite Jimmy Butler scoring 42 points.

Since joining Milwaukee, he has a 271-120 record and two seasons ago, he helped the team win the NBA title.
