BREAKING: Popular NFL Defensive Coordinator On His Way Out Following Matt Rhule’s Departure
Matt Rhule isn’t the only famous NFL coach absent on Monday afternoon. Less than 24 hours after their defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, which brought them to 1-4 on the season, the Carolina Panthers sacked their head coach. Since the start of last season, the club has lost 11 of its last 12 games.
However, Rhule is not Carolina’s only well-known figure. Additionally, the Panthers have let go of their defensive coordinator, according to NFL Network source Ian Rapoport. Rhule has previously held the position of head coach at Temple University and Baylor. Rhule was given a $62 million, seven-year deal by owner David Tepper.
Additionally sacked were special teams assistant coach Ed Foley and defensive coordinator Phil Snow.

Phil Snow sacked by NFL side Carolina Panthers
Defensive coordinator Phil Snow has been dismissed by the Panthers, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Former head coach Matt Rhule hired Snow for the Panthers in 2020.
Sources: #Panthers defensive coordinator Phil Snow has been fired. So not just Matt Rhule, but his defensive coordinator, as well.

For many years, Snow and Rhule have been joined at the hip. In 2013, Phil Snow was recruited by Rhule to serve as his defensive coordinator at Temple. The relationship between them didn’t end there; Snow later accompanied Rhule to Carolina and Temple. The Panthers have probably been the worst NFL club this season. The fact that club owner David Tepper is making meaningful changes is not at all unexpected.
I'm oversimplifying this
but a HUGE factor in Matt Rhule's college success seemed to stem from focusing on athleticism in recruiting
A core principle
He and Phil Snow could turn those athletes into players, prospects and really fun groups https://t.co/xhfqRrORJ2

After placing 20th in 2021 and 18th in 2020, the Carolina defense currently ranks 22nd in the league in terms of points allowed per game (22.4). Since Steve Wilks will now serve as the interim head coach, it stands to reason that he will also be responsible for calling defensive plays. On Sunday, the Carolina Panthers play the Los Angeles Rams, the reigning Super Bowl champions.
