BREAKING: New Orleans Pelicans Star Sentenced to 3-Year Probation, Community Service Following LA-Misdemeanor Case

For an altercation with authorities responding to a domestic violence incident last summer in Los Angeles, New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes was sentenced on Tuesday to three years of probation, 450 hours of community service, and a year of monthly domestic violence lessons.

Hayes, now 22, pled no guilty to one misdemeanor offense of wrongful imprisonment and one misdemeanor count of resisting an officer on February 24. He was given credit for a day spent in prison. He will also be subject to a protection order and must pay an undisclosed amount in reparations. The Pelicans star was also charged with ten more misdemeanors, but they were dropped.

New Orleans Pelicans center Jaxson Hayes was arrested in July 2021

On July 28, 2021, Hayes was detained after police responded to a domestic disturbance incident at 3 a.m. Officers scuffled with Hayes and struck him twice with an electric stun gun after ordering him out of the house while they questioned a lady inside, according to body camera footage. Hayes and another guy were seen on police body cam video in front of a residence in the 22000 block of Mariano Street at 3 a.m. on July 28.

“You’re not gonna kick me out of my house, bro,” Hayes told the officers back in July 2021.

Hayes was medically approved for booking at the Van Nuys jail after receiving treatment at a hospital for injuries sustained during the confrontation, according to police. Early in the confrontation, body cam footage from a sergeant on the scene shows Hayes throwing a cop against a wall while the officer tries to arrest him. The cop was sent to the hospital with an elbow injury.
