The Washington Wizards player Bradley Beal talked with two fans last month about the incident that brought up an Orlando, Florida police investigation.

Bradley Beal On Fans Gambling: ‘Don’t Get Personal

Following their defeat by the Magic last month, Beal was making his way towards the locker room when a guy is said to have questioned him over an apparent bet he had placed and lost on the game.

Beal and the Wizards were leaving the floor and heading to the locker room after losing to the Orlando Magic when, according to a police report obtained by ESPN, a guy said to Beal, “You made me lose $1,300, you f—.” Beal, according to the allegation, turned around and approached the man’s companion before swatting him with his right hand, causing the friend’s hat to fly off and making contact with the left side of his head.

“Nobody wants to lose money. I get it. If you keep it about sports, I’m all for it,” Beal said Monday. “But I think it’s when people start getting personal, talking about your family, talking about your character, your integrity towards the game. I think all of that, we can save it. We can really keep those comments to ourselves.”

Beal said he’s noticed a bit more nastiness related to sports gambling in the past few years.

“I understand. I go to casinos, I gamble, I understand that. But I also understand it’s probably a 99% chance I’m going to lose,” he said. “I’m not sitting here about to get angry at the dealer or angry at everybody else.”

The next day, after one of the men informed authorities that he intended to press charges against Beal, a police report was made. It’s unclear what kind of wager he made on the match. Despite the fact that the official surveillance tape from the Amway Center didn’t capture the actual physical confrontation, one of the men is supposedly heard on camera apologising to Beal.
