“Bound to Have a Hell of a Season”: Cincinnati Bengals Star RB Explains Why they Can Remain at the Top Next Season

Joe Burrow, the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals, had an intriguing response late last season when asked how the team’s squad had managed to stay largely healthy. Several AFC clubs made significant moves in the offseason to add players and increase their chances of making it to the Super Bowl in Arizona in February.

Joe Mixon, a running back with the Bengals, does not want all of this activity to make people forget about the group who won the AFC championship the previous season. This summer, the Bengals made adjustments to their squad that Mixon thinks would benefit from having reached the championship game the previous year, including strengthening their offensive line.

Mixon cited those aspects in an interview with Charlie Walter of KPIX as reasons why he believes the Bengals can continue to be dominant in 2022.

Joe Mixon opens up on Cincinnati Bengals’ next season

“We was obviously there,” Mixon said.

“We went there. We actually put on a hell of a showing. To be honest, I feel like we might be the hottest thing smoking in the NFL on Sundays. With the talent we got and who we added onto this year, I feel like we’re bound to have a hell of a season. The best thing about it is we’ve been there before and we know how to get there. We just gotta stick to the basics, one week at a time and that’s what’s gonna happen.”

Mixon ran for 72 yards and attempted his first career throw, a 6-yard touchdown pass to Tee Higgins, in Super Bowl LVI’s 23-20 defeat. Overall, Mixon had a career-high 1,205 running yards, 13 rushing touchdowns, 42 catches for 314 receiving yards, and 3 receiving touchdowns at the end of the 2021 season. Since Ickey Woods scored 15 touchdowns on the ground for the Bengals in 1988, Mixon has scored 13 rushing touchdowns.
