Blazers’ Jusuf Nurkic Mocks Suns’ Kevin Durant For His New “Superteam”

On Sunday, it was announced that the Phoenix Suns have signed Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal, who would team up with All-Star Kevin Durant. The balance of Beal’s five-year, $251 million supermax deal will be assumed by the Suns in exchange for a few noteworthy items that will be delivered back to the Wizards.

Blazers’ Jusuf Nurkic Mocks Suns’ Kevin Durant For His New “Superteam”

When it was revealed that the Wizards were dealing their star shooting guard Bradley Beal to the Suns to create the NBA’s newest superteam, Twitter erupted on Sunday afternoon.

Jusuf Nurkic, a center for the Portland Trail Blazers, tweeted a criticism of Kevin Durant in response to the shocking deal. With a laughing face emoji, Nurkic commented, “Brooklyn situation all over again.”

Nurkic is alluding to Durant’s infamous superteam attempt with the Brooklyn Nets, which featured Kyrie Irving and James Harden and was a complete failure.

Due to injuries and Irving’s off-court problems, the Nets three only played 16 games together.

Only one playoff series was won by Durant, Irving, and Harden together, and all three were eventually traded away within a two-year period.

On paper, this does definitely resemble the Phoenix predicament. To complete their squad, they are teaming Durant with two incredibly expensive, ball-dominant guards, Beal and Devin Booker, who have pitifully little depth.

The former league MVP spent three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, playing with superstars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, before moving to Brooklyn in 2019.

Together, the team won two NBA titles in 2017 and 2018.

Durant and the Suns missed the opportunity to win an NBA title this season after a second-round playoff ouster to the now-champion Nuggets.
