Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase Makes A Disrespectful Comment On Loss To Browns

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase gave the team some bulletin board fodder on Sunday when he referred to the Cincinnati Bengals as “elves” and stated that he did not consider the game against his AFC North rivals to be any more important than any other.

The Browns defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 24-3, extending their winning streak against the team to nine games in a row. During the game, Chase was limited to five receptions for 39 yards, and he attributed the loss to his earlier comments.

“It’s frustrating because I called their ass elves and we just lost to some elves so I’m pissed on my part,” Chase said, via Ben Baby of ESPN.com. “I’m pissed on that end. We missed opportunities, we didn’t capitalize on that shit and we lost.”

Here are the comments that Chase made earlier this week:

“It feels like a regular game to me. It doesn’t feel any different. It’s just the hooping and hollering about the Cleveland Browns. I was about to call them the elves (elves.) I don’t really hear it. If you ask me, I don’t really pay attention to it because Cleveland is Cleveland.”

Chase finished with five receptions for 39 yards on a day in which the Cincinnati offence was unable to generate much offence due to inclement weather. The Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow completed a career-low 82 passes, and he and numerous other starters were benched with five minutes left in the game. In total, Cincinnati’s offence totalled only 142 yards.

The Cleveland Browns were made aware of Chase’s reference to “elves” and did not respond favourably. On Friday, Garrett called the remark “unacceptable” and asserted that Chase “did not have to go there.”
