Bengals’ QB Joe Burrow Prepared To Return By Week 1? Here’s What We Know

Two weeks ago, quarterback Joe Burrow’s calf injury sent him off the practice field, giving the Cincinnati Bengals a worry.

The quarterback for the 2022 Pro Bowl had a calf strain that is anticipated to keep him out for “several weeks,” according to head coach Zac Taylor, who made the announcement the day after the injury.

Before Cincinnati’s first preseason game against the Green Bay Packers on Friday, Burrow was spotted throwing and sprinting on the field.

But will Burrow be prepared to start on September 10 against the Browns? That question now seems to have a yes response.

Burrow is anticipated to start for the Bengals in Week 1 according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler when appearing on “SportsCenter” on Saturday morning.

“People I’ve talked to do believe that for Week 1, he’ll be ready to go,” Fowler said. “That it would be hard for him to pass that up, that he’s trying to prepare himself to play, but Zac Taylor has said it’s probably going to be another several weeks. They’re taking this really slowly. It would be at least a mild surprise if he played in some of the preseason action, but we’ll see if it shakes out or  if that calf perks up. It’s a calf strain, it’s something that he can manage and he’s slowly working his way back. Signs are pointing in the right direction. There’s no major setback that I’m aware of.”

“He’s progressing as he should,” Taylor said after the game, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. “Everything’s been positive.”

The first time Burrow has been on the field since the injury came on Wednesday during a joint practice with the Packers.

“He’s been rehabbing quite a bit,” Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said after the joint practice, per ESPN. “He’s doing a good job, and to have him out at practice is always beneficial. Guys like seeing him, too. I think you saw everybody excited to have him out, standing around watching.”

In the first of their three preseason games, the Bengals were defeated by the Packers 36-19.

Prior to the Bengals’ first preseason game, Burrow practiced throwing. Considering that his injuries were only sustained a month ago, he appeared in good shape.
