Beneil Dariush Lays Out Possible Opponents for UFC Megastar Conor McGregor: Nate Diaz, Tony Ferguson….
UFC lightweight Beneil Dariush shared his views on who should be next for megastar Conor McGregor in a recent interview with Helen Yee. Dariush was recently called as the ‘biggest nobody in the company’ by McGregor, who isn’t impressed with Dariush’s body of work thus far.
However, Beneil Dariush’s mind for the game was on full display when he played matchmaker for the Irishman. He listed off several opponents who made sense for McGregor, given his place in the rankings as well as the recent run. ‘Notorious’ hasn’t won a fight since UFC 247 when he blasted Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone in just 40 seconds.

Dariush named Tony Ferguson as a prime opponent for McGregor, considering that ‘El Cucuy’ is on a skid of his own. Moreover, Rafael dos Anjos was also listed as a potential name for McGregor, since both men were once scheduled to face each other. ‘RDA’ and McGregor have gone back and forth in the media as well.
Finally, to no one’s surprise, Dariush also put forth Nate Diaz as an option to face Conor McGregor given their shared history.
“Guys who want to fight him that make sense, just based on his rankings I think Tony [Ferguson] makes sense. I think Rafa [Rafael dos Anjos] makes sense because I think Rafa is 7 and Conor is number 9. If he wants to fight Nate Diaz, that makes sense because obviously it’s going to be a big draw. These are the fights that make sense.”
“But for him to get a title shot or even a top 5 guy, it doesn’t make sense for me in terms of merit and competition, but I understand, in our business, money talks, and he the guy brings in numbers. I don’t think they’ll give him the title shot but they’ll give him just about any other fight.”
There’s no denying that Conor McGregor has the pick of the pack in terms of lightweight opponents. Practically every fighter on the lightweight and welterweight roster would accept a fight against him, given the paycheck that comes with the booking. Only time will tell which side of the equation McGregor chooses to fall on.
