Ben Gordon, A Former NBA Player, Was Detained Once Again—This Time For Assault—At A Chicago McDonald’s.

Ben Gordon, a former Chicago Bulls player, was detained on Friday morning on suspicion of assaulting two security personnel at the Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s in Chicago.

Around 3:28 in the morning, Chicago police responded to a report of a disturbance at the fast food restaurant, a CPD spokesperson said. According to CWB Chicago, it was the Rock ‘n’ Roll McDonald’s.

Police claim that when Gordon, 39, was being led out of the establishment, a male security guard, 29, was hit in the face and knocked to the ground. He was being compelled to leave, but it was unclear why.

According to CPD, Ben Gordon also knocked a second male security guard, age 21, to the ground. Both victims refused medical treatment, but Gordon was charged with two counts of misdemeanour battery.

Not The First Time That Ben Gordon Has Been Detained

He was detained on October 11 at LaGuardia Airport in New York for reportedly hitting his son, 10, with a closed fist. Witnesses reportedly told the Queens district attorney’s office that Gordon repeatedly slapped and yelled at the boy after the boy dropped a book, according to the Associated Press.

He was taken into custody in Los Angeles five years ago, in 2017, after activating a building’s fire alarm. He was charged with robbery the same year for hitting the manager of a housing complex where he resided.

Before beginning his NBA career, Gordon played for the University of Connecticut and won an NCAA championship. He grew up in Mount Vernon, a suburb of New York City.

In The Players Tribune in 2020, Ben Gordon detailed his battle with depression and other mental health problems:

“For six weeks, not a day went by during which I didn’t consider killing myself. At four in the morning, I was standing on the roof of my flat, looking down, and saying to myself, “I’m going to do it.” I’m going to put this nonsense in the past,” ” Ben Gordon clarified.

Gordon spent his first five NBA seasons (2004–2009) with the Chicago Bulls, who selected him third overall out of UConn in the 2004 NBA Draft. Gordon played 11 seasons for four different NBA teams.

Over 744 games, he averaged 14.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists while shooting 40.1 per cent from beyond the arc (269 starts).

In 2004–05, Ben Gordon was selected for the All-Rookie team and chosen as the league’s Sixth Man of the Year. After the 2014–15 season, he decided to retire.
