Being an athlete power couple is not easy at all as it brings challenges said Mallory Pugh

Mallory Pugh of the Chicago Red Stars and Dansby Swanson of the Cubs almost didn’t have the best timing.

The sports power couple couldn’t settle on a wedding date because of their busy schedules, so they said “I do” in a spectacular ceremony in December.

Swanson spent seven seasons with the Braves and won a World Series in 2021, became a free agent in the months prior to their wedding, while Pugh, 24, was in the midst of a Comeback Player of the Year campaign following an injury.

Before tearing her patella tendon ahead of this year’s Women’s World Cup, Pugh, 24, told The Post, “Honestly, we had one day and it was like that one date.” “Well, we two — the weekend before and then the weekend [we got married] that could work.

“I feel like everything worked out how it was supposed to and I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. So the timing of it was perfect. And we had so many of our teammates come as well and that was like the only time that we could do it.”

Pugh discussed the I Am Cracker Jill Award Programme, which Cracker Jack launched to honor female athletes, in an interview with The Post.

On December 10, 2022, the star of the US Women’s National Team married the All-Star shortstop at the Ritz Carlton Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia.

Swanson committed to a seven-year, $177 million deal with the Cubs on December 21, only two days after their domestic honeymoon.

No, they didn’t intend to play for teams in the same city, but when things turned out that way, the couple felt as though their prayers had been heard.

Pugh remarked, “I feel like we had been praying together for the whole year.” “We were just… praying about being able to be in the same city. When that opportunity came, we were both like, ‘This is what we’ve been praying for.’

“And then obviously there were other nudges that happened… We both know, this is where we’re supposed to be — and the fact that we both can be able to play in the same city is pretty special. Not a lot of people can do that.”

When Swanson was a member of the Braves, Pugh’s brother-in-law and current second baseman for the A’s, Jace Peterson, introduced the two players.

Swanson popped the question on a balloon-arched-decorated home’s doorstep in December 2021 with a gorgeous oval-cut diamond.

Custom Nike shoes and dancing under string lights were also part of the opulent occasion.

Being professional athletes in Chicago has undoubtedly made it easier for them to adjust to married life.

Pugh said:-

“We haven’t really been able to see each other because Dansby has been in spring training, and I was on the road for forever.”

“… I feel like being in the same city now and being married allows us to kind of live life together a little bit more — other than me having to fly all over after games.”

Swanson watched Dansby make his Cubs debut at Wrigley Field last month when Chicago defeated the Brewers 4-0 on Opening Day.

Swanson said in his first press conference after joining the Cubs in December that Pugh did not “nudge” him in the direction of Chicago.

Swanson said,

“There was not any nudging.” “She just wanted me to go somewhere where we would win, so here we are. It’s a place that we believe in.

“But it means the world to me to be able to be here with her. Obviously, we just got married. The last four years doing distance, it was D.C. first, then it was Jersey for a little bit and then it was Chicago.”

Swanson’s Cubs debut season is already in progress, while Pugh’s Red Stars season was only getting begun when she suffered a horrific knee injury on April 8 during the first half of their 2-0 friendly victory over Ireland.

Pugh is facing an injury that will take six to twelve months to heal with the World Cup less than 100 days away.

After spending the entire night with Mallory in the aftermath of the injury, Dansby withdrew from a game in April.

Dansby told MLB.com,

“I’m glad that we can be here together. I couldn’t imagine being apart right now.”

“She’s all right. I think everybody knows it’s a pretty tough and heartbreaking situation just for her. I’m heartbroken for her. Just a lot of tears and sadness.”

The striker, who has struggled with injuries in the past during her career, reported that her operation went well and that she is now on the road to recovery.
