Last week on Wednesday, South Sudan’s Nuni Omot elbowed Serbia’s Simani in the middle of the body, inflicting instant discomfort on the 6-foot-11 forward.

Simanic was brought to the hospital for an urgent operation.

After the initial treatment, more issues sprang up, according to team doctor Dragan Radovanovic, necessitating the second surgery on Sunday that involved the removal of the kidney.

Tuesday’s World Cup quarterfinal features Serbia vs. Lithuania.

“It was really tough for us when we heard what happened,” Serbian forward Nikola Milutinov told reporters after the team practiced Monday. “First, we didn’t believe it was such a bad thing. It’s really affected us. We’re really praying for him that he’s going to be good as soon as possible.”

During the last two minutes of Serbia’s victory over South Sudan on Wednesday, Simanic suffered an injury. Nuni Omot of South Sudan elbowed Simanic while attempting to score beneath the hoop. Simanic screamed in anguish and collapsed.

The Serbian team has been severely rattled, according to Milutinov.

“We didn’t sleep after that game. We were trying to find blood for him, because he was losing a lot of blood,” Milutinov said. “It was really a tough moment for everybody. I hope this will never happen to anybody in the world.”

After the game, Omot apologized, saying, “My apologies, I didn’t mean to make any type of a dirty play.” “I wish you a quick recovery. I offer you my prayers. I’ll keep you in my prayers. I don’t play dirty. Never have I played dirty. I truly apologize to everyone watching, especially the player, from the bottom of my heart.

Since he was a youth, Simani has consistently played for the Serbian national team. This season, the 25-year-old played off the bench and saw the court six minutes per game on average.
