‘Awesome Fight’- UFC President Dana White Leaves Door Marginally Open to a Rematch Between Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka

The main event for UFC 275 produced an instant light heavyweight classic between Glover Teixeira and Jiri Prochazka. Ultimately, Prochazka defeated Teixeira via RNC with just 28 seconds left in the fight and became the first UFC champion to hail from the Czech Republic.

The fight will go down as an all-time classic, much in part due to the back-and-forth nature of the fight. There were several reversals during the fight and both men had their moments during the five-round contest. Additionally, Jiri Prochazka was not favored to submit the jui-jitsu ace in Teixeira and this added more excitement to the overall fight.

The scrap is already being hailed as one of the best fights in the 205-pound division, swiftly after the infamous Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson 1 fight.

UFC President Dana White non-committal about Teixeira vs Prochazka 2

Following the blockbuster main event fight, aging veteran Glover Teixeira called for a second fight with the newly crowned champion. Glover Teixeira is 43 years old and doesn’t have many years left at the top.

When speaking to TSN, UFC President Dana White was rather non-committal on the idea of a rematch. However, he hailed the fight as an ‘awesome’ fight and was definitely open to the idea of a rematch, if it makes sense down the line.

“I don’t know, we’ll see,” White told TSN of an instant Prochazka-Teixeira rematch. “But yeah, it makes sense. It was awesome. Awesome fight. [h/t mmafighting.com]

“It was an incredible fight. I literally watched it in a sprinter van that night and was freaking out during the fight. It was incredible and it absolutely makes to make that fight again but we’ll see what happens.”

Dana White is rarely firm on making fights official during interviews and it’s likely that is rematch could happen in Teixeira secured one more massive win. The light heavyweight division is certainly not short on contenders and it’s likely that new names will emerge if Glover Teixeira doesn’t secure a rematch in short order.
