Austin Rivers is a professional basketball player who currently plays for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Rivers was born on August 1, 1992, in Santa Monica, California, to parents Doc Rivers, who is a former NBA player and current head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, and Kristen Rivers. From a young age, Rivers was surrounded by the game of basketball and was given the opportunity to hone his skills under the guidance of his father.

Rivers played high school basketball at Winter Park High School in Florida, where he was rated as one of the top prospects in the country. After high school, he decided to enroll at Duke University, where he played one season under legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Rivers had a successful college career, averaging 15.5 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.1 rebounds per game in his one season at Duke.

In 2012, Rivers was selected by the New Orleans Hornets (now the New Orleans Pelicans) with the 10th overall pick in the NBA draft. He made an immediate impact in the league, showing flashes of his potential as a scorer and playmaker. However, his tenure with the Hornets was short-lived, as he was traded to the Boston Celtics in 2013. After one season in Boston, Rivers was traded again, this time to the Los Angeles Clippers, where he played for several seasons before being traded to the Washington Wizards in 2018.
