Atlanta Braves Father’s Day Celebration For Charlie Culberson Was Nothing But A Disaster

The Atlanta Braves had originally intended to mark Father’s Day on Sunday in a unique way. The first pitch was going to be thrown by Charles Culberson, who was chosen by the San Francisco Giants in the 16th round of the 1984 MLB Draft and played five seasons in the minor leagues. Charlie Culberson, Culberson’s son, plays utility for the Braves.

The selection of Culberson for assignment was not entirely unexpected. He had been a member of Atlanta’s roster for about a month, but he had yet to play. The change was made on Father’s Day, which disrupted the team’s pregame preparations.

In Atlanta’s game on Sunday, Culberson’s father was supposed to throw out the first pitch. Outfielder Michael Harris II’s father will throw out the first pitch in place of Culberson’s father, whose plans were scrapped by the club.

The Braves therefore decided against the scheduled first pitch and chose to recognize Michael Harris II’s father, who is the 2022 National League Rookie of the Year.

It was a terrible and startling turn of events. MLB fans sympathized with Culberson as he found himself on the wrong side of a difficult circumstance. They concluded that Atlanta would suffer greatly from this.

The scenario was perhaps a little awkward, but as they say, the show must go on.

Before hosting the Colorado Rockies, the Braves honored outfielder Michael Harris II’s father rather than the Culberson father-son team.

Harris may have been motivated by seeing his father play since the outfielder went 5-for-5 in the Braves’ 14-6 victory over the Rockies.

Atlanta now has a 12.5-game lead over the Mets after holding a five-game advantage over the Marlins for the National League East.
