Are we seeing the end of the Kansas City Chiefs’ AFC dynasty?

As the Kansas City Chiefs start to climb the mountain for the 2022 season, they’ll have to do so without one of their biggest weapons. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was traded to the Miami Dolphins after he and the team failed to find some middle ground over a new contract, and he signed a monstrous extension with the Dolphins, with the Chiefs getting a first-round pick (plus four other draft picks) in return.

With Hill out of the picture, the Chiefs don’t have a true number one receiver. Mecole Hardman is, like, really bad, and JuJu Smith-Schuster just ain’t it. Clearly, there’s a lack of talent in their receiver room, and when September comes, Mahomes will have to do his magic without his best friend.

Are we seeing the end of the Chiefs’ dominance as we all know it?

Well… maybe not

Just listen up: as long as the Chiefs have Mahomes under contract, they’ll be an AFC contender, even if they don’t always win the conference – just like it happened in 2021. And if they give up Kelce, trust me, they’ll still contend for the conference.

The Chiefs will never trade Mahomes away. And, as long as he stays in Kansas City, they’ll always be one of the best teams in the league. That’s as simple as that.

We can discuss the end of an era. It was a joy to watch Mahomes throwing to Hill over the last four years, and it was great to see the heights reached by this special version of Andy Reid’s offense. But all good things must come to an end, and that’s what happened in Missouri.

But the Chiefs will be fine even without Hill. He wasn’t the biggest piece. Mahomes remains there, and that’s what matters in the long run. Kansas City can breathe.
