Are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bucks a contender for championship ?
After the amazing outing Giannis Antetokounmpo lead Milwaukee Bucks have had against the Miami Heat, it is hard to imagine the Heat coming back from this deficit. However, as discussed in one of our articles before, the Heat has been a resilient team and knows how to come back from a 0-2 series lead.
For the Miami Heat to make a strong comeback, the whole unit will have to play as one. Role-players will have to step up their game. The supporting cast of Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, and Dewayne Dedmon will have to contribute constantly while also being intimidating at defense. And for the core of the Heat roster, Bam Adebayo has been an Excellent defensive presence, but it is his offensive production that he will have to bring forth as Goran Dragic will need a big man to lob the ball to in a pick and roll situation. Dragic did not have a good game 2, ending the night with just 17 points on a terrible shooting stat. He will have to look for his shot more and consistently drain it as well to match the offensive production the Bucks have.
And now onto Jimmy Butler. He probably had the most terrible game, ending the night with just 10 points but give credit where credit is due as the Bucks defense has been amazing at locking Jimmy Butler down. Butler has been the engine that drives the team, and shutting that engine down has given the Bucks a huge headstart.
The Milwaukee Bucks currently lead the series 2-0 with finishing both games by a huge margin and their star Giannis Antetokounmpo is in exceptional form. They seem to be absolutely locked in. So can the Milwaukee Bucks be considered a strong contender for the championship?
It’s a tough call to make. The Bucks definitely have championship-caliber players with an excellent supporting cast that compliments the main core of the roster. However, certain teams have the same arsenal, maybe more, which might tip the ball in their favor.
The Bucks have Giannis Antetokounmpo, ab absolute freight train on the open floor that is nearly unstoppable. He has even worked on his outside jumper, which makes him all the more deadly. Then onto Khris Middleton, the deadeye shooter for the Bucks. Middleton knocks down deep range three’s even with a hand in his face. And last but not the least, Brook Lopez and Jrue Holiday. Two exceptional players that complement Giannis & Middleton’s duo quite well.
The only hiccup I see in the eastern conference is either the Philadelphia 76ers or the Brooklyn Nets. Because Ben Simmons of the 76ers has what it takes to slow Giannis down a little, and Brooklyn has the best offensive percentage with 3 all-stars in the lineup as well, that can rain down offense on anyone.
It may be too early to assume that the Bucks are a lock-in for the championship, but I’d definitely say they are a powerful contender this year.
