Apparently, The Knicks Are Hoping That Joel Embiid Would Request A Trade From The 76ers

The New York Knicks reportedly have their sights set on the 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid, as should every team except the Nuggets. The Sixers, who haven’t advanced past the second round since 2001 and haven’t reached the Eastern Conference Finals since 2001, suffered another second-round elimination as a result of Embiid’s finest season in his seven-year career.

The latest reports that Joel Embiid may join the New York Knicks have excited NBA fans in New York City. Imaginations go wild for ardent Knicks supporters when they consider having such a powerful and dynamic center in their cherished team.

Apparently, The Knicks Are Hoping That Joel Embiid Would Request A Trade From The 76ers

There has been a desire in New York that events in Philadelphia will spiral out of control to the point where Embiid will make a date request, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Tim MacMahon said on the most recent episode of “The Hoop Collective” podcast that the Knicks are keeping an eye on Embiid in the event that the 2022–23 MVP asks for a trade and the 76ers experience “haywire” results as a result.

“They’re not hoping for patience, they’re hoping for The Process. I don’t know if that’s coming, but they’ve looked at that situation in Philly and there’s been a hope in New York that stuff in Philly will go haywire to the point where Embiid will ask out,” MacMahon said.

“I don’t know the percentage odds on that, I would say they are slim, but that’s been the hope.”

In the event that Joel Embiid requests to be dealt and the New York Knicks express interest, the following trade structure would be advantageous for both parties

Daniel House Jr. and Joel Embiid would be acquired by the Knicks. The Philadelphia 76ers would acquire the Knicks’ 2027 and 2029 first-round draft selections in exchange for Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and a promising young center named Obi Toppin.

Since Embiid is nearing the end of a four-year, $210 million supermax agreement that he signed last year and that does not begin until next season, it seems doubtful that the 76ers’ longtime face will leave.

James Harden, who has an opt-out clause in his contract that he may use this summer, is anticipated to sign up with the Houston Rockets again as a free agent, abandoning his intended championship teammate.

The Knicks would still be hopeful that things would go wrong with their division opponent even if they weren’t in a position to actively pursue Joel Embiid should he make a trade request. No matter what, Embiid leaving Philadelphia would be advantageous to New York. It’s a bonus that he could wind up  with the Knicks.
