As usual, Team USA has continued to demonstrate its supremacy in the competition. Although several players made significant contributions to the team’s triumph, Anthony Edwards, their 21-year-old superstar, carried a lot of the load. The Minnesota Timberwolves guard has been so outstanding that Michael Jordan himself has been compared to him.

Anthony Edwards was the driving force in a comeback victory over Germany in the fifth and final exhibition game for the United States before to the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The result improved their record to 5-0. Not only did he score a game-high 34 points, but the Timberwolves star took over down the stretch with a dominant fourth quarter.

“He’s unquestionable ‘the guy,’” head coach Steve Kerr said of Edwards after the game.

“I mean … he knows it, but now the team knows it and I think the fans see it. But we see it in practice every day. He genuinely believes he’s the best player in the gym every single night. And he’s such a dynamic young player, but I think he’s taking a leap.”

Edwards had a productive game, going 11 of 21 from the field against a German team that is a genuine medal contender at the World Cup. One of his eleven buckets in particular stood out.

By removing Hart from the game and positioning Jaren Jackson Jr. in the dunker position, Team USA hopes to make room for Edwards. Knowing that Edwards wants to score, Germany reacts by having Moritz Wagner assist off Jackson to put a little bit more pressure on him.

Although Edwards doesn’t have much room to attack moving to his right, the baseline is still available as a result of his high post-up start.

Edwards quickly spins off and loses Schroder. Then he nonchalantly sinks a jumper over Wagner, who is 6-11!
