Angles Brought In Shohei Ohtani’s Body Double To Pose For Team Picture

The Los Angeles Angels’ brightest star Ohtani was absent from the team photo day on Tuesday.

While Shohei Ohtani, who missed Monday’s game due to oblique pain, was unable to participate in the team portrait, his No. 17 was still on the field. The Angels substituted a body double for him who was “very tall in the front office, name to be discussed,” according to Bally Sports West.

Angles Brought In Shohei Ohtani’s Body Double To Pose For Team Picture

Sam Blum and Sarah Valenzuela, reporters for the Angels, shared images and videos of the stand-in and stated that the man who was to occupy Ohtani’s 6-foot-4, 210-pound physical space in the image had departed the field by an outfield exit.

“Shohei will be in the photo when you see it,”  Angels manager Phil Nevin said with a smile.

It was picture day on Tuesday, but top player Shohei Ohtani was reportedly unavailable, according to Sam Blum of The Athletic.

But the Angels weren’t discouraged.

Blum tweeted, “[T]hey used a body double, and will presumably photoshop him in.”

“He was taken through a back exit by Angels PR.”

A fan found it amusing to have Ohtani’s body duplicate with a beer belly and shared the image.

“The Shohei Ohtani body double has a beer belly ffs. What is the angels even doing getting an old white guy,” the fan wrote on X.

Mistakes have been plenty this season for the Angels. Tuesday night, they had a score of 64–74. Since Ohtani would soon be a free agent, the organization chose to go all in this year rather than try to receive something in return for the outstanding talent either in the offseason or before the trade deadline.

“Shohei’s gonna be fine,” his agent Naz Balelo told reporters on Monday, according to ESPN. “Is he gonna pitch the rest of the year? No. We already know that. Is he gonna get into next year? We don’t know yet. So just bear with me on that.

“But I do know this — no matter what timetable we’re dealing with and when we get this done, Shohei’s gonna be in somebody’s lineup next year, DHing when the bell rings. We know that. We’re not gonna push that. He’s gonna be good to go.”

Ahtani is striking. He aims to win his second American League MVP with a 304/.412/.654 line.
