Angel Reese has distanced herself from the ‘Bayou Barbie’ moniker. What’s next?
Angel Reese is faced with a challenge. The forward felt that her nickname, “Bayou Barbie,” was no longer appropriate for her when the Chicago Skye selected her seventh overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She therefore solicited her supporters for assistance in coming up with a new moniker.
In order to add Reese to their squad for the 2024 WNBA season, Chicago made a trade with the Minnesota Lynx this past Monday, vaulting them to seventh place in the draft.

Beyond the difficulties in her personal and professional life that this entails, Reese encountered a unique issue when she realized the moniker she went by for four years at Louisiana State University was no longer appropriate for her.
The request from Reese
Reese turned to X, the former Twitter, to enlist the aid of her devoted followers in order to fix the problem.
“I need a new name now that I’m in Chicago lol, something cute that is catchy like Bayou Barbie,” querying the formerly Tiger.

It didn’t take long for fans to flood the player with recommendations for names, which ranged from adorable to difficult. With monikers like “Chi-Town Angel,” “Chi-Reese,” “Chief Reese,” or “Chi-Town Shawty,” the majority of the choices are related to the town’s name.
Some, like “Sky Reese,” “Breezy Blue,” “Lakeshore Lovely,” “Chicago Cinderella,” or “Southside Barbie,” seem to have what the forward requested because they are catchy and appropriate for her current circumstances. Some, like “Vintage Globe Owner” or “Windy City Wonder Woman,” seem too intricate to be worth mentioning.
The beginning of the Reese and the Sky season
In around three weeks, the WNBA preseason will get underway. Chicago will play the Lynx to begin its preparations before taking on the New York Liberty.
With a two-game series against the Dallas Wings, who rank fourth overall and second in the West Conference in the 2024 regular season, Reese and the Sky will face challenges in their first games of the season.

Reese might have to put her hunt for a new nickname on hold for a while because she has so many new worries. But as one of her supporters suggested, “Wait till the season starts. It will come.”
