Angel Reese graduates LSU, stylishly silences critics with her signature flair and grace

The Chicago Sky star, Angel Reese, who recently graduated from LSU, has sent a strong message to her detractors. Reese finished her college career in style, sporting a graduation cap and gown in a series of victorious pictures posted on X and Instagram after being selected No. 7 in the WNBA draft in April. “So now what? what was said? oh okay that’s what I thought,” Reese wrote as a caption for the pictures. “I graduated from THE LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY IN 4 YEARS ON TIME. I thought somebody without a college degree said sum.”

The mother of Reese’s former LSU teammate Flau’jae Johnson, Kia Brooks, appears to be the target of the pointed letter. Early in the season, when Reese was unexpectedly benched in November—a move LSU head coach Kim Mulkey referred to as a “coach’s decision”—tensions between Reese’s family and Brooks burst. This resulted in a contentious Instagram conversation between Brooks and Reese’s mother, Angel Webb Reese.

The internet dispute was started by Webb Reese, who poked fun at Brooks’s writing, speaking, and “Folks pls do not send me long text msgs with a bunch of grammatical errors it gives me a headache.”

Brooks retaliated harshly, casting doubt on Reese’s academic record: “You definitely know about grammar errors when your daughter got a 2.0 or less GPA…Stop being petty, fake and hateful. And take responsibility for you and your daughter’s actions.

After Brooks implied that Reese’s success was the result of borrowed fame, the online argument grew more heated. “Just like God gave it to you he will take right away. Always stay humble and never forget who made you and where you came from!!” Notwithstanding the incident, Reese maintained her composure and resolve, using her graduation to refute her critics and validate her academic achievement.

Reese maintains composure during controversy and receives encouragement from teammates

Reese shared pictures from her graduation along with a tweet from November 19th that brought attention to the dispute between Webb Reese and Brooks as well as the controversy regarding her purportedly low GPA. Reese also posted on Instagram her mother’s ferocious defense, writing, “My momma said what she said.

In her essay, Webb Reese highlighted the family’s scholastic successes and tenacity: “I hv a college degree as well as my ex-husband (my kids’ father for y’all nosy folks) so yeah we both set an example in that regard.

Johnson upheld Reese’s morality in spite of LSU’s elimination from the NCAA Tournament by Iowa in the Elite Eight, saying, “Everybody can have their opinion on Angel Reese, but y’all don’t know her… I know the real Angel Reese and the person I see every day is a strong person, is a caring, loving person.” Johnson’s remarks emphasized the team’s unity and support.
