Angel Reese Disregards Caitlin Clark Episode, Sacrifices Body in Daring Court Rush Following LSU Last-Second Shot

Women’s basketball standout Angel Reese of the Tigers was the first person to swarm the court to greet Tyrell Ward of LSU, who had just put No. 17 Kentucky to bed with a buzzer-beater that sent Pete Maravich Assembly Center into raptures.

The mayhem that was occurring inside the arena was captured on camera by Reese. She ignored the risk in order to rejoice, even though there were thousands of unruly students on the court who could have hurt her.

From the Caitlin Clark affair, Angel Reese did not take any lessons.

The scene was one of unadulterated happiness and friendship, but it reminded me of a less-than-appetizing event earlier in the season when Caitlin Clark was knocked down during a courtstorming at Ohio State.

Although Clark did not sustain any major injuries, it brought attention to the players’ safety risks when students stormed the court following a significant victory. In the days that followed, the subject came up, but it was ignored in the interest of “fun,” maybe because Clark played down the hit she sustained.

Reese was on the opposite side of the island on Wednesday night in Baton Rouge, joining her fellow students in the boisterous celebrations without thinking about her own safety or the safety of the men’s basketball players involved.

Dangerous action that might cause problems for Kim Mulkey

It begs the question of what notoriously strict LSU coach Kim Mulkey thought of Reese taking a chance like this in a week that might make or break their season and with a game the following night. Reese was controversially suspended by Mulkey for multiple games earlier in the season, but since her return, there have been no problems. With 22 games under her belt, the Bayou Barbie is averaging 19.2 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest.

Following a resounding victory against Texas A&M on the road on Monday, during which Mulkey looked right at home in her cowboy boots, LSU takes on Auburn at home on Thursday. Auburn shocked them in their season’s first conference game.

When LSU travels to Knoxville on Sunday to play Tennessee, a historic powerhouse that is now tied with the Tigers for first place in the SEC rankings, the stakes will be even higher. As they pursue league foe No. 1 South Carolina and Clark’s No. 4 Iowa Hawkeyes, the defending NCAA champs will need to win big during this hectic three-game week.

Reese still splits people’s opinions.

Courtstorming proponents will yell from the rooftops that Reese is ultimately just a college kid having fun. Sincere in her support of the men’s team and the school, Angel demonstrates that she is always comfortable being herself when she isn’t playing. That explains why a lot of people adore her and plenty of people loathe her.
