Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark’s WNBA Entry Elicits Magic Johnson vs. Larry Bird Comparisons

The WNBA is anticipated to welcome Angel Reese, a great player for LSU Tigers, and Caitlin Clark, a guard for Iowa Hawkeyes, in 2019. Reminiscent of Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird saving the NBA, their rivalry is still going strong throughout the league.

By sharing a picture of herself with NCAA star Sheryl Swoopes earlier this week, Reese fueled the competition between herself and Clark. Swoopes had before said that the aforementioned college hoopers would struggle to transition to the WNBA.

The last time Iowa played, fans of Clarke were seen sporting “Don’t be a Sheryl” shirts. Reese’s reply was to take a picture with Swoopes wearing a t-shirt that said the exact opposite.

Similar to how Magic overcame Bird in the collegiate championship game just before entering the NBA, Reese and the Tigers defeated Caitlin Clark’s Hawkeyes in last year’s national championship.

The WNBA is going to be incredible.

Basketball games played in Iowa are among the most watched of the year thanks to the Clark effect, and attendance will only rise during March Madness.

In contrast, WNBA games have not seen a notable uptick in interest despite constant efforts to make them more relevant.

Sabrina Ionescu’s play, which is akin to that of Stephen Curry, has ignited a revolution, but the WNBA will be saved by Reese and Clark’s rivalry, just as the NBA was saved by Magic and Bird.
