Angel Reese achieves a milestone in LSU’s victory, notching a double-double and surpassing 2,000 career points

Angel Reese recorded a double-double and scored more than 2,000 points in his career, Hailey Van Lith scored 26 points, and No. 13 LSU overcame Tennessee 75–60 on Sunday thanks to a late 16–2 run.

Van Lith, the highly sought-after offseason addition via the transfer site, scored 12 points in the fourth quarter. Halfway through the fourth quarter, she made it 59-55 with a jump shot and then extended the margin to seven points with a 3-pointer. Flau’jae Johnson finished the run with five points, and she added another basket.

Angel Reese, the star transfer from Maryland the previous season, finished with 11 points and 16 rebounds, including four in the game-winning run. 1,287 of her 2,006 career points came from LSU.

For the Tigers (24-4, 11-3 Southeastern Conference), Mikaylah Williams scored 15 points.

For the Lady Vols (16-10, 9-5), Rickea Jackson pulled down nine rebounds in addition to scoring 16 points, making her career total of 1,009 points. With her final 10 points, Tamari Key is five points away from becoming the 50th player with Tennessee to achieve 1,000 points. For the third consecutive season, Jasmine Powell had over 100 assists with seven assists to go along with her eight points.

In the second quarter, LSU outscored Tennessee 19–10, taking a 38–26 lead into the half. Entering the fourth quarter behind 48-45, the Lady Vols rallied to tie the game with a 19-10 third-quarter outburst against the Tigers.

Finishing at a season-low 31.1%, Tennessee made just 2 of its final 9 attempts.

Prior to playing their final regular-season game against No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday, the Lady Vols will play Texas A&M at home. Kentucky will be LSU’s final opponent on Sunday after they travel to Georgia on Thursday.
