Angel Hernandez Vs MLB: Did No Go Well For The Umpire In The Court
Angel Hernandez, an umpire for MLB games for more than 20 years, has established a solid name for himself. Now, the credibility of the Cuban-born person has suffered another severe blow.
Angel Hernandez Vs MLB: Did No Go Well For The Umpire In The Court
Angel Hernandez, who was born in Cuba in 1961 and grew up in the Miami region, started officiating Little League games when he was just a teenager. Hernandez joined the MLB as a full-time umpire in 2000 after receiving a promotion to Minor League Baseball in the 1990s.
On Tuesday, a federal appeals court declined to reopen the case of umpire Ngel Hernández against Major League Baseball in his racial discrimination claim.

MLB was awarded summary judgment in a 2021 District Court ruling that was affirmed by the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals.
He claimed he was the victim of discrimination since he wasn’t allocated to the World Series since 2005 and had been passed over for crew chief.

Fans weren’t too sorry for Hernandez today, who is perhaps one of the league’s most contentious umpires.
“Call goes against Angel,” MLB reporter Jon Heyman said.
Hernandez claimed MLB executive Joe Torre had something against him, but judges Susan L. Carney and Steven J. Menash of the 2nd Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals decided against him.

Hernández said that Joe Torre, a major decision-maker for umpires at the time, had hostility toward Hernández because of Torre’s time as the manager of the New York Yankees.
“Hernández has failed to show that the criteria Torre used in making crew chief promotion decisions caused the existing disparity between white and minority crew chiefs,” it said. “Hernández has made no showing that Torre harbours a bias against racial minorities.”
