Andrew Schulz Defends ‘Technician’ Israel Adesanya Against Recent ‘Pitter Patter’ Criticism From Chris Pratt Among Others

Israel Adesanya defended his belt in a rematch against Robert Whittaker at UFC 217 earlier this year. After the win, Adesanya had only one target in mind, Jared Cannonier. ‘The Last Style Bender’ stated that he wanted ‘fresh blood’ and identified Cannonier as the ideal candidate for that. Fast forward a few months and the UFC obliged to his wishes as they matched him up against Cannonier to headline the International Fight Week card in Las Vegas.

In the build-up to the fight, Adesanya claimed that his performance against Cannonier would be better than the one against Costa and that it would end in a finish. However, Adesanya failed to deliver on this promise as he beat ‘The Killa Gorilla’ on the scorecards at the end of five hard-fought rounds. The performance against Cannonier invited a lot of criticism for ‘Izzy’ because of the lack of action.

Comedian Andrew Schulz backs his friend Israel Adesanya

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani, comedian Andrew Schulz defended his friend Adesanya. He said, “Everybody’s giving a hard time about the fight. … what happens is like as you are champion and as you are dominant, you are fighting the riskiest fighters. So the fights are not going to be as entertaining when you are getting a tomato can and knock out the first round. Now, he can take extreme risk, which I think is what everybody wants to see, I want to see my friend dominate people.”

Schulz continued, “And I love the technician that he is. I’m learning to like appreciate the minutia of MMA a little bit more. So like, I like seeing him set up his strikes and that kind of stuff. I can see how a guy like Chris Pratt, who’s a sweet guy, is like ‘I just want to see carnage, dude’. ‘Like I want to see a bar-fight’. And that’s probably why most people can’t enjoy the sport without really having any knowledge of it.”
