Andres Cantor’s Call of Argentina’s World Cup Win Goes Viral

Argentine-American soccer announcer Andres Cantor almost broke down while bellowing his signature “GOOOOOOOOL!”

At the age of 23, Mbappe could have joined the ranks of the greatest players ever, or Messi could have cemented his status as the Greatest of All Time by winning the one trophy his resume was missing, and somehow we may have gotten both.

Argentina eventually won, and the excitement for the victory was best captured by listening to Andres Cantor, a legendary broadcaster born in Buenos Aires, on the call for when the winning penalty kick connected.

In thrilling fashion, Argentina won the 2022 men’s World Cup title on Sunday when Lionel Messi and co. defeated France on penalties following a 3-3 tie in extra time.

Sometimes everything works out perfectly because the right person is at the right place at the right moment.

No, we’re not talking about Leo Messi here. We’re discussing a different GOAT, a different legend. Argentina-born announcer Andrés Cantor has created a lot of amazing moments in front of the microphone throughout his career. Gonzalo Montiel’s penalty kick helped the Albiceleste win their third World Cup by overcoming France on penalties following a remarkable 3-3 draw, and he might never make another call quite like it.

Andres Cantor of Telemundo was one of the broadcasters that called Argentina’s Gonzalo Montiel’s game-winning goal, and the native of Buenos Aires was overcome with emotion as he delivered the now-famous call.

Argentina is the “global champion,” the Argentine announcer sobbed after Cantor’s legendary “goal!” celebration.

“GOOOOOOAL, Argentina is the champion,” Cantor said, translated to English. “Argentina is the world champion. ARGENTINA IS THE WORLD CHAMPION! ARGENTINA IS THE WORLD CHAMPION! ARGENTINA IS THE WORLD CHAMPION! Argentina! Is the world champion! From the sky they did it. You guys did it, players. They won the sky. Argentina is the world champion. Messi is the world champion. It couldn’t be any other way. Argentina. Lionel Scaloni’s Argentine selection is the world champion. Argentina. Argentina is the world champion. … 36 years, waiting … Argentina, Argentina is the world champion.”

Here’s the video of the full call after Argentina won the World Cup title.
