All you need to know about new live streaming football service NFL Plus

NFL Plus, a new football streaming service that offers a few NFL live feeds, is to launch shortly. Although it was simply a rumour for a long time, we now know that an NFL streaming service will launch soon.

Roger Goodell, the commissioner of the NFL, revealed this information to CNBC (opens in new tab). According to Goodell, “We think it’s extremely essential to have a direct interaction with the customer, we think we have a lot of material, consumers want it, and so we’re really enthusiastic about what the NFL Plus is going to be.”

Goodell continued, saying in order to portray the impending NFL Plus as all potential and less of an immediate key participant “It’s really just getting started, but I think it will keep developing over time. We will use it as a key tactic moving ahead.”

What would an NFL Plus provide, then? Let’s explore all that we now know and what we anticipate learning in the near future.

NFL Plus potential release date

Goodell revealed to CNBC that NFL Plus would be a service available for the upcoming NFL season. He remarked, “Timing will be for this season, at least in the beginning stages,” in more detail.

In the interview, which was held on July 8, he said that further information will become available “in a few weeks.” In light of this, anticipate an official announcement from the NFL at the end of July, as Sports Business Journal(opens in new tab) previously reported.

All of this seems reasonable, especially in light of the fact that the NFL preseason begins on August 4.

NFL Plus prices and costs

NFL Plus would probably cost $5 a month, according to the aforementioned SBJ story, “but a source cautioned the price structure may change.”

This would make sense because any streaming service with a sports concentration will probably offer different tiers and bundles. By doing this, you may cater to both casual and die-hard supporters.

What will the NFL Plus streaming service providers do in terms of features?

NFL Plus will deliver live in-market (also known as local) NFL games that you would see on your local broadcast TV networks, in case you hadn’t guessed it by now. Yes, the NFL intends to charge $5 per month for what Yahoo and Verizon gave away for free. The SBJ article states that team-produced content, podcasts, and radio shows will probably also be offered.

However, there is a sizable flag on the field in that report. Unless you parse things literally, that is. According to the statement, “Live games on mobile phones and tablets” would likely be offered by the service as “the content focus of NFL Plus.”

It would be difficult to get started without NFL Plus being accessible on the best streaming devices, such as Rokus and Fire TV Sticks, so this doesn’t sound very plausible. in particular, because it was already free.

NFL Plus prediction: Will this be a success?

If this service is available on more devices than just “phones and tablets,” it will have a far better chance of luring cord-cutters who only use one of the finest cable TV alternatives to watch their local games.

Having said that, there are now just two significant NFL streaming arrangements active. By this autumn, according to Goodell, NFL Sunday Ticket should have a new partner. Amazon, Apple, and ESPN are all apparently interested parties.
