Aljamain Sterling Mocks Petr Yan With a ‘MMA Rule Book for Dummies’ Ahead Of Their Title Fight

Aljamain Sterling takes on Petr Yan as the first defense of his bantamweight belt at UFC 273 later this week. Sterling, who has been out since March 2021, had to undergo surgery and rehabilitation, which is why the fight was postponed multiple times. ‘Funkmaster’ has a lot to prove in the rematch, given that a vast majority of the fans do not consider him the legitimate champion based on how the first fight ended between the two.

In preparation for the rematch, Sterling has a special gift in store for his arch-rival Petr Yan. In a video posted to Twitter, ‘Funkmaster’ pokes fun at Yan as he demonstrates what can be done to a ‘downed’ opponent while reading out of a book titled ‘MMA rulebook 4 dummies’ The caption for the tweet read, “Going over some Fight IQ with the team….. ya know so that they never lose their belt. The best-seller, MMA Rule Book For Dummies, by yours truly is available worldwide. Even in Russia and Thailand. #justsaying. Tag a friend or a who needs this book!”

Aljamain Sterling has a lot of people to prove wrong at UFC 273

‘Funkmaster’ is currently on a six-fight win streak, prior to his title fight against Petr Yan, Sterling dominated and submitted Cory Sandhagen inside 90-seconds at UFC 250. ‘The Sandman’ went toe-to-toe with Petr Yan over five rounds for the interim bantamweight title at UFC 267.

In all the criticism Yan has received over the past few years, fans tend to forget how good he really is. Sterling is not someone who got lucky and was gifted a title shot, he is someone who has fought the very best at 135-pounds before being given a title shot.

That being said, Sterling was clearly losing the fight up until Yan landed the illegal knee. Therefore, this time around, ‘Funkmaster’ has a lot of adjustments to make if he wants to beat Petr Yan and firmly establish himself as the legitimate champion of the UFC’s bantamweight division which is one of the most talent stacked divisions in the promotion.
