Alexa Grasso Finally Won The Fight Against Valentina Shevchenko After Many Controversies

After a contentious split draw in their rematch on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena during Noche UFC, Alexa Grasso (16-3-1) is still the indisputable UFC flyweight champion of the globe. Valentina Shevchenko (23-4-1) is the current champion of the flyweight division.

In the postfight interview, Grasso, 30, said she would need to consult with her coaching staff before determining whether to give Shevchenko another title shot in what would be a trilogy fight.

Shevchenko, 35, infuriated the predominantly Mexican fans by claiming that the split draw was forced upon them because it was the night of Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations.

Shevchenko won the first round with ease, while Grasso won the second after putting the Russian fighter down with a right hook.

It was the first time anyone had ever knocked Shevchenko to the ground in her career. She fought back with a strong third round, controlling the ground for the majority of the five minutes.

Grasso vs. Shevchenko, the second round of championship

Both competitors gave some punishment to one another in the fourth round, which might have gone anyway. However, the debate centers on the last round.

The fifth round was given to Grasso by one judge, who gave it a score of 10-8 in his favor despite the fact that Shevchenko was rescued by the bell.

Shevchenko would have recovered the flyweight belt after having lost it to the Mexican fighter back in March had the judge awarded Grasso the victory in the fifth round by a score of 10-9.

Grasso, who still wore the title belt, was equally dissatisfied with the draw. The UFC champion thought she deserved the victory.
