Alex Smith Criticised Tom Brady’s “NFL Mediocrity” Comment

Tom Brady gained notoriety lately for his divisive remarks made while appearing on the Stephen A. Smith program. He practically attacked the whole NFL in one of his numerous sharp criticisms, saying that he saw too much “mediocrity” in terms of competition.

Alex Smith Criticised Tom Brady’s “NFL Mediocrity” Comment

It seems that the remarks upset Alex Smith, a different former quarterback with whom Brady had faced off on the football field. Smith responded angrily to the seven-time Super Bowl victor.

His assessment of the overall calibre of the NFL was not shared by him. Smith said as much when he recently appeared on ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown,” which was held before the Week 12 schedule of games.

Quarterback Alex Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler, disputed Brady’s assessment of the product on the field. Brady attracted attention to the alleged “mediocrity” on the field, but Smith used a different tack.

Smith stated:

“He hasn’t been retired that long. He was just playing, like he just won a Super Bowl in the current game, like are you discounting that one? And then my biggest complaint with this, and no offence to you guys, all three of you guys, he played in the most uncompetitive division, I think, in NFL history.”

“I mean, you come out of training camp, the biggest cupcake division, you got in the playoffs right away, like talk about mediocre. I completely disagree with this…”

When Brady was a player for the New England Patriots, he referred to the AFC East as a “cupcake division.”

“You got a ticket to the playoffs right away, talk about mediocre,” Smith added. “I completely disagree with this. I know he’s referencing the rule changes over the middle of the receiver but in my opinion, I think that game has gotten better.”

Smith also thought it strange that Brady expressed his viewpoint, given that he was aware of the NFL’s present situation when he won the Super Bowl in 2021 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

“Listen, I love Tom. The GOAT. But first off, he hasn’t been retired that long. He was just playing. He just won a Super Bowl in the current game. Are we discounting that one?” stated Smith.
