AJ Brown Speaks On Eagles Firing OC Brian Johnson: “Somebody has to be the bad guy
Wide receiver AJ Brown of the Philadelphia Eagles doesn’t appear to be that disappointed that offensive coordinator Brian Johnson won’t be returning in 2024.
AJ Brown Speaks On Eagles Firing OC Brian Johnson: “Somebody has to be the bad guy
During an interview with Rob Maaddi on the AP Pro Football Podcast, Brown stated that when a team is struggling, “someone has to be the bad guy” and that he doesn’t become “too attached” to the offensive coordinator since the players must perform well on the field for things to work.

“In this league, somebody has to be the bad guy if something don’t go well. I wasn’t surprised,” Brown said. “Like I said earlier about the OC job, regardless of whoever you put in that position, it comes down to the players executing and making plays.
“Me personally, I’m not attached to whoever’s in the OC position, because I have a job to do. When my number’s called, I have to answer.”
Following the Eagles’ Wild Card round loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which ended in a 32-9 score, Johnson was fired. He wasn’t alone, though.
I’ve seen a lot of people complain about Kellen Moore. Kellen Moore has coached some very good Offenses. He will bring some very much needed creativity to the Eagles Offense.
Kellen Moore is better than Brian Johnson. The Eagles Offense is gonna be way better next season.… pic.twitter.com/qcWQORaNSs

The Eagles fired most of their coaching staff following their late-season collapse, which ended with a 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs in the NFC Wild Card game.
Nick Sirianni, the head coach, survived to start his impending fourth season. However, Johnson was fired along with defensive coordinator Sean Desai and senior defensive coach Matt Patricia, who assumed play-calling responsibilities for the defense towards the end of the season.
In 2023, Brown played in all 17 games, catching a career-high 106 catches for 1,456 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He had a good season overall. However, there were rumors in Philadelphia that he didn’t get along with the coaching staff.

Additionally, the Eagles would appear more like the squad from 2022 and the first half of 2023 with an offense that can better use Brown’s skills than they would the club that struggled late in the season and quickly lost out of the playoffs.
