After a year, Shakira and Her Ex-Boyfriend,Gerard Pique, Finally Found Their way to Make Peace With Each Other

In June 2022, Shakira and Gerard Pique made their separation official through their PR firm.

“We regret to confirm that we are separating. For the well-being of our children, who are our top priority, we ask for respect for their privacy. Thank you for your understanding,” read the statement.

Since then, the couple has had several meetings where they have had to make decisions that are typical of a divorce, such as where the kids will live or what kind of custody they will share: “They are complying with the separation agreement to the letter, there is no longer any discussion or problem,” according to Shakira’s immediate group, as Vanitatis magazine stated.

Later, the same circle of Pique repeats the statement, saying, “That’s how it is, there is no problem, you can report as is.”

For the former couple, who hopes to finally lead a more tranquil life away from the media glare, the seas are now beginning to calm down. When journalists and cameras crowded the streets around the house soon after their split, it was tough and upsetting for the neighbors. But that is over now.

When Piqué starred in Shakira’s music video for “Waka Waka,” the official song for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the two were introduced. Even if it only appeared for a short while, the legendary singer’s faith was profoundly affected.

Shakira and Piqué dispelled all rumors about their romance on social media. The Barcelona defender is pictured hugging the singer from behind in a picture that was shared on Twitter and Facebook with the phrase “Les presento a mi sol” (I present to you my sun).

During her “The Sun Comes Out World Tour” stop in Barcelona, Shakira gave Piqué an on-the-spot dance instruction. Following their victory over Manchester United, the footballer and several of his Barcelona colleagues went on stage to master a couple of Shakira’s distinctive dances. In front of the cheering crowd, the couple kissed and held hands before swiveling their hips.

When she accompanied Piqué to the 2011 FIFA Ballon d’Or Awards dinner in Switzerland, the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer dazzled in a crimson gown. As they entered the ceremony, the couple took a minute to look into each other’s eyes.

Shakira has a very solid reason for skipping the 2012 iHeartRadio Music Festival. In announcing her pregnancy with Piqué, the Grammy Award winner said they were expecting their first child.

“As some of you may know, [boyfriend] Gerard [Piqué] and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!” she wrote the caption on the post. “At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives and postpone all the promotional activities planned over the next few days.”

On January 22, 2013, at 9:36 p.m. in Barcelona, Spain, Milan Piqué Mebarak was born. In a message posted to Shakira’s website, the new parents revealed some information about the name of their baby.

“The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”

The Voice coach told PEOPLE at an NBCUniversal press conference that parenthood was difficult but lauded her partner for being a hands-on parent.

“Thank God [Milan’s] father has been really involved,” Shakira said. “He’s been amazing. The baby spends as much time with me as he does with his dad. He’s the kind of dad who is full hands-on. He changes diapers; he enjoys bathing him. That’s a real help for me.”

“Yes, we are expecting our second baby!! Thank you for all your well wishes!” she wrote.

It supported the information the singer had previously provided in  Cosmopolitan en Español September 2014 issue.

“Well, yes, the truth is that, yes, I am pregnant,” she said.

Another kid was born in January to Shakira and Piqué. Barcelona welcomed Sasha Piqué Mebarak into the world on January 29 at 9:54 p.m. Shakira and Piqué both contributed to the naming of their newest family member, just like they did with younger brother Milan.
