Aaron Rodgers Stands With OC Nathaniel Hackett As Jets Offence Is Called Into Question

Despite not being able to play since tearing his Achilles tendon in Week 1, Aaron Rodgers has been a fixture on the Jets sideline, lending a hand to Zach Wilson and listening in on play calls.

Aaron Rodgers Stands With OC Nathaniel Hackett As Jets Offence Is Called Into Question

During the second quarter of the Raiders game on Sunday night, it appeared as though Rodgers’ disapproval of one of offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett’s calls was caught on camera by NBC.

The Jets’ offensive problems persist. Every Tuesday, the quarterback for the New York Jets Aaron Rodgers makes a public appearance on Pat McAfee’s show. At some time, the topic of the team’s flagging offence would undoubtedly come up.

“Yeah, yeah, I see it,” Aaron Rodgers responded to the criticism directed at the Jets’ offence today.  “I won MVP twice in the same offence, so I’m a believer. I’m a believer in the offence. There are a lot of positions, you have to play better. But, yeah, it’s easy right now to throw it at the usual suspects, Zach [Wilson] and Nathaniel, but there’s a lot of positions that need to play better.”

After the Jets’ once-promising season took a turn for the worst with two straight primetime defeats, 43-year-old Hackett has come under pressure.

The former offensive coordinator for the Packers, who worked with Aaron Rodgers during his consecutive league MVP seasons in 2020 and 2021, is in charge of a team that produces explosive players like running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson, but it has struggled to reach the end zone.

“There’s a lot of geniuses out there with ideas about how to fix the whole thing, but in actuality, it’s very simple,” Rodgers said. “If you watch the film, you can see where the issues lie and there are plays to be made. There are opportunities that are out there and we’re just not getting it done.”

If so, it’s someone’s fault. And with Hackett in charge of the offence, the buck needs to stop with him, eventually.

While Wilson, a third-year quarterback, has also been facing a lot of the spotlight with Hackett, Rodgers, 39, stated on Tuesday that “a lot of positions that got to play better.”

“It’s easy right now to throw it at the usual suspects, Zach and Nathaniel, but there’s a lot of positions that need to play better,” Rodgers said.

On Sunday, the Jets (4-5) will go to the Bills (5-5) in a game. In the first game of the season, the Jets defeated the Bills, 22–16.
