Aaron Rodgers Advices Bengals QB Joe Burrow On How To Handle Calf Injury

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said that he received advice from New York Jets star Aaron Rodgers about the calf ailment he suffered during training camp and is still struggling with this season.

According to Christian Arnold of the New York Post, Rodgers explained on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Tuesday that he reached out to Burrow after watching the 26-year-old play through discomfort during the Bengals’ 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, which improved the Bengals to 1-2 on the season. Burrow completed 26 of 49 throws for 259 yards with one interception and no touchdowns versus Los Angeles.

“For him to tough it out, I don’t think that people realize how much pain and limited mobility he was in,” Rodgers said about Burrow while speaking with McAfee. “But for him to gut it out last night and to make enough plays to win, like I texted him, that’s what great competitors do. They show up and  play through the pain and don’t make it a big deal.”

“He’s dealt with calf issues his whole career and wanted to use him as a resource and get his thoughts, what he might have done,” said Burrow, who added that he considered what Rodgers said. “He’s been through it, done that. And he was great about it.”

Burrow, with a smirk, did not elaborate on the instructions Rodgers gave him.

“[I’m] going to continue to use that as a resource,” Burrow said.” He’s a great guy. Whenever you have a guy like that that’s willing to help, you’re going to use it.”

Cincinnati had a walkthrough on Wednesday following their game over the Rams on “Monday Night Football.” Burrow, who exacerbated a pre-existing calf injury against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 2, cleared a workout the morning of the game, giving him and the club confidence he could play on the calf. Burrow threw 49 passes that night, assisting the Bengals earn their first win of the season.
